Celebrating the Human-Animal Bond: Sophie's Purple Paw Story
The bond between people and our pets can be truly life-changing, which is exactly what Naturewatch Foundation's Purple Paw campaign seeks to celebrate.
At One Wish, we see every day how dogs transform our lives, offering companionship, comfort and unconditional love when it's needed most. Few stories capture this better than that of Sophie, founder of dog accessories company Olive & Beans.
For Sophie, dogs are much more than pets. After spending time in hospital in 2020, she welcomed Beans into her life on the day she was discharged. Beans quickly became a source of comfort and support during some of her most difficult times, with Sophie describing her as "the dog that saved my life". Later, Olive joined the family, and the special bond Sophie shares with both dogs became the inspiration behind her company Olive & Beans and its commitment to supporting mental health causes.
Sophie's experience perfectly reflects the Purple Paw message: the human-animal bond has the power to heal, inspire and create positive change. The love, loyalty and companionship she found in Olive and Beans not only helped shape her own journey, but inspired her to create a business centred around giving back.
Recently, Sophie extended that kindness to the dogs in our care by donating four huge boxes of collars, leads, harnesses and blankets. This incredibly generous gift will help provide comfort and security and to our dogs as they begin their journeys towards a brighter future.
Sophie's story reminds us that when dogs change our lives, that impact often reaches far beyond our own homes. It inspires compassion, generosity and a desire to help others experience the same unconditional love.
